Review For Day of The Doctor (Doctor Who 50th Special)

Doctor Who. Day of the Doctor. BBC1.

This past week the long running science fiction series Doctor Who celebrated it's 50th anniversary. The episode was titled Day of the Doctor and was simultaneously aired over 80 countries. Besides getting the World Record for the longest running series they also won the record for biggest simulcast.
While that is all interesting this is review of the episode so if you haven't managed to watch it yet stop reading there will be spoilers sweetie.

The anniversary had the return of David Tenant as the Tenth Doctor along with current Eleventh Doctor. The episode also included the War Doctor, the Doctor who had fought in the Time War. The three doctor end up fighting off the fan favorite alien the Zygons in Modern Day London and Elizabethan England.
The episode let fans glimpse into the Time War, the final days of Gallifrey and the fall of Arcadia. All those events have been wrapped in mystery so even getting a little insight into was a great treat for fans. There was also an explanation for the Doctor's wedding to Queen Elizabeth the First near the end of Tenant's run.
There were many easter eggs for long time fans starting right from the start with one referencing the first moment of the first episode. Long time fans will enjoy that all the Doctors showed up near the end even if only through the use of archived footage.  There was even a cameo from the next Doctor. There was also a special appearance of Tom Baker who played the fourth Doctor. Though the special focused a lot of the newer doctors they certainly made sure to give due credit and attention to the old doctors and the long past of this show.
The War Doctor turned out to be a fun and interesting character. Many fans were upset of them adding another doctor in the middle of the count but this episode did a good job to explain why the Doctor feared that incarnation and tried to hide it. The emotional impact this incarnation has a clear and his presence felt. The War Doctor had a lot of sass that seemed like had a great burden on his shoulders that he tried his best to carry. This Doctor isn't just the lost doctor but a man lost to himself and by the end of this episode he finds who he truly is. It's a shame this Doctor will only be seen once because he was a very compelling character.
The story was great, it started out like just a fun romp but nearing the half way point the viewer starts to see the grand adventure it really is. By the end the stakes are clear and it has you hopping for the impossible. I think that's what the special is about, hope.
I haven't heard any complaints about the special and I can't think of any myself. Though some people would have wanted to bring in the old doctor there are limits that can't be over come. I think the crew managed to addresses the desire as best they could. The story was an enjoyable one and gave viewers a lot of things they wanted to see. It had a great balance of funny and emotional things. There were moments that could make you cry and some moments that could make your heart soar. Overall I would say it was a wonderful special. It might be a bias but I will say this gets a five out of five. You can't please everyone and give them everything they would want to see but I certainly think this special gave something that every fan of the show could enjoy a little something they could enjoy.
