Psych The Musical The Review

Psych.USA Network.

Psych the Musical is the 110th episode of the Psych series. It's not only a two hour long special but it was one down in song, a musical. Not one of those where they rehash old song this one had all new songs. Now for those who don't know the theme song was written by the creator of the series Steve Franks.

Let's get into the details of the show.  Shawn and Gus are called into the case of a patient that escaped a mental institution. Soon they discover that Yang knows everything about the plan the escapee, Z, has planned on doing after his escape. The story itself pretty great, plenty of twists nail bitting suspense, heart and lots of humor. Like any other episode of Psych there is a lot of references and this time they're all musical based. So any fan of musicals is sure to get thrills from that.
Now as for the songs, they are still stuck in my head and will have you singing along if not on the first go the second one. They're all well written and lively like you'd expect from a from Psych. Music is hard to describe in words so I'll suggest you go check out the songs yourself. The songs are lively, toe tapping, funny and even moving. They covered things from up beat tempo to moving hopeful songs.
This story takes place not after the last season but somewhere in the middle of that season before our fakes psychic's secrets were revealed to Juliet. That can make it a little confusing to explain and figure out the story in the overall things. Yang's story line was pretty good, she's gotten a little better in the hospital but still retains that who psycho child like wonder and playfulness. Some people might notice she's lost a little faith in Shawn nearing the end having expected more from him.  Now big spoiler if you haven't seen it, Yang dies near the end. She get's one last number about her trying to reach the promise land and a familiar face returns to meet her in death.  That was a treat for long time fans.
We didn't get much development from other character but we did get a peek at Lassie's past and a little more on our favorite coroner. Trust me if he is your favorite coroner you'll live his song.
Now about the bad stuff. There really wasn't anything bad. The songs fit well and the story was compelling and just overall good. A few points it felt a little slow but maybe for five minutes at the most. It was just and overall fun episode of Psych with great songs.
I really wish I could say more but that is most of it in a nut shell. It's a wacky and funny episode. Overall I'd say this episode gets a 4.5 out of 5. It's pretty good, I can't say anything against it really but it didn't blow me away. Still it is good episode to watch if you like Psych or musicals.
